Who are these people I create? Where do they come from and what are their stories?
They come from my life and their stories are my story. I take what is real in my life and make it just as real in theirs.
The process of direct carving is essential to their very existence. It is through the practice of this discipline, through touch, that my imagination is stirred, creating a connection between my world and theirs. They are my imagination, inhabiting a universe every bit as real as my own. I love the mystery of it all; the believing in a place of my own creation.
Just as I seek to distill the forms to their essence, I also seek to mythologize the actions these forms bring to life. These actions exist in both my world and theirs. Thinking big, sitting, or rounding a corner; I am compelled by the endless depth and mystery possible in life’s ordinary moments that allows them to take on mythic overtones.
I like to imagine that my Beings are fully attentive to the mysteries within which they reside.
